Green Hotel Club | Recap of the 25 September 2026 Meeting

On Friday, 25 September, hotel professionals from more than 20 Green Hotel Club members gathered at NYX Hotel Amsterdam Rembrandt Square, part of Leonardo Hotels, for a morning filled with knowledge sharing, practical examples and new ideas for a more sustainable hotel industry.

Several current topics were addressed during the meeting. Programme Manager Sander Verschuren provided updates on:

  • The free energy scan by EnergiePartners, which 21 hotels are now taking part in.
  • Meetings and pilots focused on waterborne transport in Amsterdam’s city centre.
  • The free biodigester provided by CIRC, which the Municipality of Amsterdam is making available to one of the Green Hotel Club hotels.
  • The practical outcomes of the session with VANG Buitenshuis and Stimular in November 2025, during which hotels explored practical solutions to reduce packaging from suppliers.

During the Best Practice Roundtable, participants exchanged experiences on practical solutions for sorting and recycling waste in hotel rooms and creating a paperless reception. The discussions generated a range of practical examples and ideas that hotels can implement directly within their own organisations.

A special moment in the programme was the launch of ‘from sheet to shirt’, a collaboration between Pulitzer Amsterdam and from sheet to shirt. During the meeting, the first collection of hotel room amenities made from repurposed hotel bed linen was presented. It was a great example of how discarded textiles can be given a new purpose within the hotel industry.

Attention was also given to the new EmpCo legislation. Chrissy van Meersbergen from Green Label Service took participants through the key developments surrounding Green Claims and credible sustainability communication. The focus was on how hotels can communicate their sustainability efforts accurately and substantively, while at the same time preventing greenwashing.

During the workshop Designing a Practical Employee Engagement Plan, participants worked hands-on with the question of how hotel teams can be actively engaged in sustainability efforts and how resistance to change can be overcome. Jens van der Weele demonstrated how behavioural insights can be translated into concrete actions that fit into employees’ day-to-day work.

The morning concluded with lunch and a guided hotel tour of NYX Hotel Amsterdam, giving participants the opportunity to see various sustainable and innovative solutions in practice.

Once again, the meeting demonstrated the wealth of knowledge and experience within the Green Hotel Club. By sharing experiences, challenges and practical solutions, participating hotels are working together to further advance sustainability across the hotel industry.
