From 2028, the Municipality of Amsterdam plans to restrict heavy freight traffic in parts of the city centre. This presents an opportunity to rethink how hotels receive deliveries and manage waste in a smarter and more sustainable way.
Together with hotels, suppliers, logistics partners, and knowledge institutions, the Municipality of Amsterdam and Green Hotel Club are exploring innovative logistics solutions, including transport by water and light electric vehicles.

On 23 June, the first workshop took place as part of the Lighter on the Wallen project. Hosted by Renewi at the circular showroom in CTPark, the session brought together hotels from the Green Hotel Club network and logistics partners to discuss the challenges and opportunities for hotel logistics in the Wallen and Lastage districts. A key outcome of the workshop was the shared ambition to launch a pilot project.
The first step is to map the current supply chains of participating hotels using supplier profiles. From September onwards, fourth-year Logistics students from the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences will analyse these supply flows and identify opportunities to consolidate deliveries and reduce emissions.
The insights will help shape future pilot projects with participating hotels and logistics partners.
Are you a hotel located in the Wallen or Lastage area? We invite you to join the initiative. The more hotels that participate, the greater the opportunity to develop efficient, scalable, and sustainable logistics solutions that benefit the entire hospitality sector.
